Before I got involved with Thomas & Thomas I managed to accumulate a sizeable collection of our graphite offerings – Vector’s, Horizon’s, Apex’s and DH’s but I never ordered a bamboo rod. Why? The five year wait. When you’re living for the moment – for example racing skiff’s at 40 mph in the pitch dark to reach a favorite tarpon spot or up to your armpits in swollen salmon and steelhead rivers – it seems counter-intuitive to plan for what your fly fishing desires might look like that far in to the future.
I’m assuming many others feel the same way and that is why I’ve asked Tom, Troy and Wendy to clean up our bamboo order book, add some resource to the department and come up with new ways of working. One outcome of this project is that we will now be building identical rods in small batches and we all agree that this really does result in better rods than the scattergun approach of previous years. An additional benefit is that we may end up with a few unallocated rods that can be offered for immediate delivery – in marketing speak – from time to time you may be able to make an ‘impulse’ purchase of a T&T bamboo rod. A dangerous thing, for sure.
You can click here to see available rods. If you don’t see the rod you want on the list you can call or email Troy and he can advise you as to the build schedule for your preferred model. Our aim is to be fulfilling bamboo orders within a 6 – 12 month timeframe. MR.

February 3, 2012 at 6:04 pmIt is wonderful to see the bamboo tradition continued. Your rods are still the benchmark for craftsmanship. There is nothing better in fly fishing than standing a river surrounded by mountains, rising cutties to dry flies and enjoying holding one of your bamboo rods in your hand. This is what life is all about. I tremendously enjoy my Hendrickson and Beaverkill and hope to add more over time. Tom and Troy have been absolutely fabulous in their work. Keep up the wonderful work.

February 6, 2012 at 4:04 amI have a new Beaverkill and absolutely love it. Thanks so much for carrying on a great tradition. I hope to put the “wood” on a couple of trout this year in Idaho and Montana. I will be adding a henrys fork soon if possible.

February 25, 2012 at 3:03 pmMy Specialist is a dream rod. Have longed for it so long and a few years ago I bought one.
I’d like to add another T&T bamboo in the future. It’s great to know that the waiting time of many years is gone.
Keep up the good work!
